Ka huna

Bodywork

aka Temple Style Lomi Lomi

More than Massage, it's a Journey into Self

What is Ka Huna Bodywork?

Born on the islands of Hawaii and infused with the 7 Huna principles (see principles here), ka huna bodywork offers a holistic massage experience that ushers you to place of deep connection with, and within, yourself.   More than just massage, this unique style of bodywork facilitates profound opening and letting go, like the blossoming petals of a flower.

Dynamic in application ka huna is wonderfully flowing and energetic with the practitioner using hands, forearms, elbows, breath and deep compassion to guide the recipient on a journey of self-discovery. Each session is an exploration into self which has the ability to help release unnecessary holding patterns within our physical, emotional & spiritual selves.

What to expect

The treatment commences with long flowing strokes which facilitate relaxation and the dropping of the mind, with deeper work following.  Stretches, underbody work, prayer, sound and breathwork may all be incorporated into a session with no two sessions being completely alike.

This sacred dance around the body honours the very essence of who you truly are and encourages you to completely surrender to your divinity, dive deep within, and allow for the profound innate healing your body is designed for.

Ka huna works physically on the body’s soft tissues, joints and various systems (lymphatic, circulatory, immune, digestive & respiratory), and also acts to create shifts on the higher mental, emotional and spiritual levels. Through the release of stagnant energy, we prepare the body to heal and release not only physical ailments but emotions such as fear, anger, grief, guilt, as well as negative beliefs, self-criticism and traumatic memories, creating transformation into greater clarity and confidence and bringing opportunities for deeper self-awareness, self-acceptance and self-love.

As you dive deep emotions may rise to the surface and we encourage you to release these via the breath and sound.  It is possible to encounter tears, laughter, groaning or twitching as the body releases tension and all of these are perfectly acceptable and held as beneficial.

As ka huna practitioners we have strength of conviction for the work we do and hold space with the utmost dignity and respect for our clients.  We are trained in the art of draping so your modesty is assured at all times.

Who can receive ka huna bodywork?

Everybody can receive and benefit from ka huna bodywork regardless of shape, age or state of health and you will find it particularly beneficial if you are depleted or lack of vitality, feel ungrounded/out of balance or suffering pain.

Ka Huna can also support you through times of stress, anxiety, depression, exhaustion, physical discomfort or injuries, confusion, grief or loss including ongoing illness, work or relationship issues.

Pregnant?

No problem. Our specially designed massage table allows you to lay face down, even in the later stages of pregnancy, and ka huna can help you deeply connect with your changing body and babe within.  We undergo specialised training for mums to be with adaptations for side lying massage for treatments of longer duration or for those not comfortable lying prone (belly down). Please advise us of how many weeks along you are.
